Self Portrait

More exercises in monochrome. this is the first portrait I've done entirely from a photo. It is a slightly warped perspective, but I was able to be more acurate than I have been painting myself "live" by looking in the mirror. 11x14 guache on canvas, November 2008.

Autumn Still Life

First painting in our new home in St. Louis.Getting beck into painting after a summer-long hiatus. I had this antique 7Up bottle and a nicely-shaped twig, and I wanted to focus on the values and textures. Doing it in monochrome kept me from cheating with fancy colors.
